toolbars
Toolbars consist of groups of icons (pictures) that represent their function. For example, the Print icon displays a picture of a printer.
To find out what a button does, simple hover the mouse over it and a screen tip will appear, explaining its function.
It is likely that the screen will be displaying the Standard and the Formatting Toolbars by default. If not, click on the View menu and select Toolbars, then click on the required toolbar to place a tick against it:

The same method can be used to hide a toolbar when not in use, i.e. deselect the toolbar by clicking on it again to remove the tick.
A quicker way to show/hide toolbars is to right click on a toolbar. This will display the same list of toolbars. Select or deselect in the normal way.
Toolbar Options
It is possible to change some of the default toolbar options, for example, icons can be shown as large icons and ScreenTips can be displayed (or hidden).
In MS Office 2000, intelligent menus are set by default. This means that only the menu options you use the most are displayed when a menu is clicked on; the rest are hidden. If you wish to view the hidden options, wait a few seconds and they will appear, or click on the chevrons at the bottom of the menu:

While displaying the toolbar menu, click on the Customise option at the bottom.
Click on the Options tab.
The following dialogue box appears:

Select the rquired options then click on Close.
